FAQ

  • Deep Cleaning Dreadlocks

Keeping your dreadlocks clean and free of buildup is essential for healthy, long-lasting locs. A deep cleanse every 3–4 months helps remove residue, refreshes your scalp, and prevents bacterial growth.

    Step-by-Step Deep Cleanse Method

    Step 1: Bicarbonate Soda Application
Sprinkle bicarbonate soda onto dry dreadlocks until they appear white. This helps break down dirt and buildup.

Step 2: Apple Cider Vinegar Soak

    • Plug your sink or basin and pour apple cider vinegar over your dreadlocks. You can dilute it with water if preferred.

    • Soak up as much liquid as possible and gently massage any hardened areas to soften residue.

    • When the apple cider vinegar reacts with the bicarbonate soda, it releases deep-seated buildup.

    Step 3: Towel Wrap
Wrap your hair in a towel and let it sit for 30 minutes to enhance the cleansing process.

    Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly

    • Wash out the solution in the shower.

    • If the water runs brown, repeat the process to ensure all residue is removed.

Step 5: Final Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

    • Apply apple cider vinegar only to remove any leftover bicarbonate soda.

    • Leave for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water.

    Step 6: Shampoo & Dry

    • Wash your dreadlocks with a residue-free shampoo (I recommend Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap, available in various scents).

    • Shampoo twice per wash for a thorough cleanse.

    • Wash dreadlocks 1–2 times per fortnight, with a deep clean every 3–4 months to maintain hygiene.

    Drying Tip:

    • Allow your hair to air dry naturally for best results.

    • Blow drying is an option, but it can loosen new growth and make hair appear fluffier.

    Maintaining Healthy Dreadlocks

    • Skip conditioner, as it can cause buildup and loosen knots.

    • Essential Oils for Scalp Health:

      • Rosemary oil: Stimulates follicle regeneration & promotes hair health.

      • Lavender oil: Soothes and relaxes the scalp.

  • Preparing for Your Dreadlock Appointment

To ensure the best results for your dreadlock repair, maintenance, creation, or knot removal, it's important to arrive with clean, dry hair.

    Best Preparation:
Deep Clean your dreadlocks a few days before your appointment for the most thorough cleanse.

    If You're Short on Time:
Shampoo at least the day before your appointment.
Double shampoo to ensure your hair is properly cleaned and free of buildup.

Clean hair allows for a smoother and more effective service, helping you achieve the best results.

  • Post-Care for Dreadlock Creation, Repair & Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and health of your dreadlocks, follow these essential aftercare steps:

First 7–10 Days: Keep Them Dry

After your dreadlocks have been created, repaired, or maintained, it's best to keep them as dry as possible for 7–10 days. This allows the natural dreading process to take hold and helps your locs settle properly.

    Palm Rolling for Faster Maturation

✔ Palm rolling your dreadlocks regularly helps them mature faster and maintain their shape.
✔ Always do this when your hair is dry to prevent frizz.
✔ Roll one dreadlock at a time, starting from the root and working to the tip, creating friction and heat to encourage tightening.
✔ For extra grip, lightly spritz with sea salt spray before rolling.

    Washing & Maintenance Routine

    • Use a residue-free shampoo to prevent buildup (Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap is a great option with various scents available).

    • Double shampoo each time for a deep cleanse.

    • Wash 1–2 times per fortnight to maintain cleanliness.

    • Perform a deep clean every 3–4 months to remove buildup and refresh your dreadlocks.

Following these steps will help your dreadlocks stay clean, tight, and well-formed over time.

  • Knot & Dreadlock Removal (Detangling & De-Matting)
